Are Infrared Sauna's Worth the Hype?

Infrared saunas have been gaining popularity in recent years, and there is evidence to suggest that they provide many different health benefits. Studies have shown that infrared therapy can help with pain relief, improve circulation, and even provide skin rejuvenation. It can also be a great way to relax and unwind after a stressful day. Saunas can be extremely powerful tool for improving our health, energy, and longevity – and numerous studies also confer this.
In fact, regular use of saunas has been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by more than 60%, neurological disease by more than 65%, and all-cause mortality by 50% compared with those who don't use saunas.
Ready to take your health game up a notch? Consider adding the mighty sauna! It's been linked with improved mood, increased exercise recovery and enhanced sports performance. But wait - there’s more! One research study showed people who used them everyday reported massive improvements in fatigue and pain levels as well as reduction in depression and brain fog symptoms. Get ready to see even greater gains when you choose the optimal sauna for your needs.
One study even showed that daily sauna use for 30 days resulted in massive improvements in symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome.
Here’s what they found:
Fatigue scores went from about an 8/10 to a 2/10.
Pain went from about an 8/10 to a 1/10.
They also found MASSIVE improvements in sleep scores, as well as reductions in depression and brain fog.
If this sounds to good to be true, it actually gets better. Research has been conducted on a myriad of benefits of sauna use including improved mitochondrial and cellular function and health, improved memory, improved cardiovascular function, improved sleep, improved skin, improved acne, detoxification of heavy metals through sweating, detoxification of chemicals, decreases in blood pressure, decrease of inflammation and pain, increased oxygenation and blood flow, heart rate boost and improved immune function which I can 100% confirm happened for myself. As a caveat please check with your healthcare practitioner before attempting changes to your own healthcare practices.
Why is Infrared different than traditional saunas?
Infrared Saunas use light waves to heat the body from the inside out. These light waves range from around 600 up to 900 nm to effect changes deep beneath the skin tissue as part of the visible/invisible light spectrum. Physicians have used light therapy for decades. In fact, NASA did some of the first studies using light therapy in space for astronauts to grow plants with the use of photosynthesis. Light Therapy, aka, photobiomodulation, has been in use in dermatology and with skincare practitioners for decades. Use of LED, and red light therapy in addition to other colors in the visible light spectrum. Light therapy is very effective for skin treatments such as acne, photoaging, decrease in fine lines and wrinkles and with cellulite reduction. We know now Light Therapy improves mitochondrial function and cellular health with a myriad of benefits.
One of my favorite brands, Therasage, incorporates medical grade, patented technology into their home use Infrared Sauna. I watched an interview with the founder of Therasage and Elle McPherson in early 2022 when I was first introduced to the concept of Infrared in a Sauna.

Little did I know then just how powerful that interview would become for my own life. Who knew that using this sauna would allow me to reduce my medications to half and help me have more energy. For me, it has been life changing. It is horrendous to have a breathing disease but this one daily practice for me has changed my life. I could not be more grateful!
For me the Therasage Infrared Sauna has absolutely been worth the hype! What I loved about the Therasage 360 was that the Infrared helped me to be in a sauna without the heaviness I typically feel in a traditional sauna. Having severe asthma precludes me from being able to do a lot of therapies such as typical saunas. The air feels very constrictive in a traditional sauna and is difficult for me to breath in.
Therasage designed an opening for your head so you don't overheat and the air is not heavy since my head is outside of the heat. You can also adjust the heat down to 100 and the time to suit what works best for you. I also the love the portability of this design. You can literally pack it up and take it with you on a road trip. It's fabulous!
Here are others research papers to peruse that may help you learn even more.
